5 Finnish printers into finals at FlexoTech Awards

Several Finnish printing companies that work together with Marvaco Oy participate in the Flexible Packaging category, including RKW Finland Oy, Westpak Oy Ab, Elecster Oyj, and Rani Plast Oy Ab. DS Smith Finland has also been successful in the Corrugated Post-Print category in the previous years, and they made it to the finals this year, as well.

The number of Finnish entries in the finals is exceptionally high this year. What all of the above-mentioned packaging printing companies have in common is that they use Marvaco EGP (Expanded Gamut Printing) process technology to implement their packaging prints. 

The Finnish Westpak Oy Ab received Europe’s first EGP partnership certificate in June as a recognition for successfully implementing this modern production process. The certificate was awarded by Marvaco Oy, the pioneer in EGP technology. Westpak successfully adapted EGP in 2015 and was the first Nordic printing company to do so. The higher quality of EGP-printed packages enables new, higher-quality and more diverse printing solutions that can be expected to succeed in international printing competitions in the future, as well.

The EGP technology enables a higher-quality, efficient and more productive packaging printing with no need for spot colors. Digitally predictable brand colors and packaging prints can be efficiently implemented with process inks where the CMYK printing is enriched with OGV (Orange, Green, Violet) inks, for example. With this method, brand colors that have been difficult to implement in the past can now be implemented in a controlled and precise manner, batch after batch.

In addition to flexography, EGP can also be used in digital and offset printing, which enables uniform colors for packages printed with different methods. International brand owners and printing companies are widely moving on to EGP, and there is increased interest towards EGP in Finland, too.
